The Official Irish Rugby Thread

The IRFU are after saying that we'll be playing a game there every year for the foreseeable.

Would you go again?

I think It'd have to be the All Blacks for me to go, and obviously we can't play them over there every year. I wouldn't be travelling across the Atlantic to watch us play Australia.

England, however....
I don't get why the IRFU are pushing it.

Know a few people who spent a small fortune to go, the amount they spent on tickets was kinda irrelevant in proportion to the rest of the spending on flights, etc...
It's surely not cheap shipping the entire Leinster squad out to the US for a week or so. Nor renting the stadium.
Surely there'd have been a hell of a lot more revenue from having it in Croke park, with much much lower costs and it actually builds support in Ireland, rather than the fickle US market.
Unless someone is paying them to be there, then I don't see how it works financially. Maybe the idea is you build a base of support that you milk for merchandising sales?

If I recall, we had a few really good u20 teams between '21 & '24 that won a few GS and were very competitive in WC's. How many of the players in those groups are close to the Irish set up now?
That would probably have been our most successful underage run yet there appears to be no confidence about any of these players coming through.
The arrival of new family members and nearly all URC and CC rugby being behind paywalls on the UK mean I am nowhere near following the club game the way I used to.

The 2023 U-20 RWC team had Hugh Gavin, Sam Prendergast, Fintan Gunne (played for Leinster against Munster), Paddy & Gus McCarthy, Ronan Foxe, Ruadhan Quinn, Britan Gleeson, Evan O'Connell

Good number of them getting game time

Gavin's exposure has been a bit disappointing at Connacht this season. I think he could find himself behind Farrell, Kelly and Postheltwaite shortly.

Congrats kid!!!
Thanks, I suppose I should have clarified that she was new 2 1/2 years ago but as her favourite hobbies are 1) I'm not f**king sleeping & 2) I'm going to let you know about it...paying for sport I'll never get to watch makes little sense.

Rugby really shoots itself in the foot with it's inability to align it's products.
