The Official Irish Rugby Thread

I think in maybe 4or5 years Sam P will be the better player, however it’s clear as day his not better right now. Surely selection of the 10 has to be based on form and ability, not based on the fact that he could be better one day ?

I think Irish management has been unfair to Prendergast, setting him up for failure. In the current environment, Munster fans are particularly sensitive about their representation, the best that could be expected is "yeah, he did ok" and any obvious mistakes or missing a tackle that led to a try would have led to him being attacked aggressively.
As it was, he did ok, pretty well when you consider his level of experience, but he's now got a load of vocal critics. Entirely avoidable by just having him on the bench...

I almost completely agree. The Ireland management are at fault here and have created a rod for Prendergasts back, when they could have let him mature naturally over the coming years. Crowley is an all round better player currently and doesn't have to be minded in defence, which is the big problem with Prendergast. Better teams than England will get through on him, or work a move off him in defence.

There won't be much of a rod for Prendagast when it's only Munster fans seeing an issue with this.

Leinster make up the majority of the Irish support, and vast majority of commentary on the Irish team. He won't be under anything like as much scrutiny as others and he'll be very blanketed from far away criticism.

The biggest questions of Prendergast are yet to come. All well and good getting an armchair ride for 90% of his games. Crowley has already had to win and lock out 2 games for him.
