The Official Golf Thread

It'll probably sell out in seconds. We're definitely not their target market.

When the €499 came up first I thought the same, I was suddenly tempted. Then I saw that it's per day ffs.

Prices have literally doubled since Rome. Complete gouging.

Era that won't be a weekend for the Irish. It'll be yanks and private jets galore.

50 grand for a barge in Athlone.

🤣🤣🤣

reminds me of the tour de france gouging in 98 we were all going to open B & Bs then

I seen earlier on the bbc sports page 499 euros for what looks like the 3 days, it wasn’t very clear🤷‍♂️
You’d wanna really like golf, I’d watch the majors myself if I had nothing else on but the Ryder cup is a load of bollox, bunch of multi millionaires thinking they’re soccer players for the weekend 🙄
I’d be the same. I watch the Masters and the US Open but after that I lose interest a bit. id rather spend this on a holiday.

My dad has done it, got 25,000 for a week. Seemingly paid for by an American tv network. Must be nothing closer he is about 50km from Adare
Thought he could stay with me for the week, no problem, 10k please.

You'd see nothing anyway. Large crowds flowing 4 games on the course. Head to Irish or even the Scottish and the Open would be far better value.

1000%
Ryder Cup or a Major is way better on a practice day, possibly Thursday too. Better to watch the weekend on TV.
The American Express used to be incredible for player access . Best 50 players in the world, Quiet crowd wise and very relaxed stewarding, pre Celtic Tiger times. I walked fairways in Mount Juliet beside Tiger watching him play the AE.
Daft now when you think of it.

In fairness, Alex has already won on the DP this year. He was going to earn a card regardless, I think.

I wouldn't begrudge him too much as they both seem like nice guys and that was a lovely moment for them.

Plus his brother can't hit his shots for him. Once he's in the tournament he played his part in winning it on merit.

But there's no disputing that having a top 10 ranked guy as his brother has given him a decent leg-up that most other players of the same ability don't benefit from.

  • He played in this year's & last year's Zurich Classic on a sponsor exemption, purely because his brother chose him as partner and it's good PR from the sponsor's perspective.
  • This win gives him his PGA tour card through to 2028 (compared to 2027 if he's earned it solely through the DP world tour route).
  • It also gives him entry to the Sentry, the Players and all remaining Signature events for this season and next.
  • This also allows him more scope to plan out his season schedule a lot more in advance. Plus the dough from this win contributes to a decent kitty to fund his expenses.

All of the above is not to be sniffed at for a 27 year old looking to break through and become an established PGA pro.
