The Official Golf Thread

Did a fairly basic model for the Olympics event, as there wasn't that much detail available on the nature of the course.

So I went with my gut as much as anything this week, and kept the stakes low.

Win gold - Aberg
To win a medal - Aberg, Conners & Detry

On the Racing post (paper in shop) it said Fleetwood, Noren and one other I can't remember have won there.

Also said its a difficult course with accuracy being a vital skill.

The previous experience and course fit looks to have worked well for Fleetwood. But you'd be a somewhat brave man to back him to win it from here - even though he's only 1 stroke off the lead.

Hard to see anyone beneath the cluster on 10 under being in contention for the gold, but you wouldn't rule out someone at 8 or 9 under making a late charge for bronze especially if they've got some rabid countrymen cheering them on.

BMW Championship this week. As ever Scottie comes out on top - this time with a 20% win likelihood.

But Xander is pretty close and in better form, so I'll back him at 6/1 (..along with the Bet365 25% boost)

I don't know if you were watching the golf last night, but I watched some of it. Rory was playing with Clark. McIlroy hits a fantastic tee shot on the 16th par 3 to inside 5ft, Clark hits the middle of the green, safe and unspectacular. Then Clark drains a 25-30 footer for birdie and you could sense immediately that Rory was going to miss, which he duly did. If he's not being the standout hero, he can't do it.

The Steven Gerrard of golf.
