The Official Celtic Thread

Any goals from today?
The guy who normally uploads them was too embarrassed to upload the first.

It was a penalty converted by Mooy..... awarded after a VAR review.

It wasn't a penalty. Absolutely no chance should it be awarded. It's not uncommon for Celtic to get decisions like that in cup games to prove the myth that Celtic get decisions too. It'll be all over the wireless for the next week. Nothing surer. There was a debatable penalty shout in the second half too....

Ex Celt Jim Goodwin about to go bang...

Aberdeen beat by a team that sounds like the makers of comic bukes said by someone with a cold

Darville I think. Certainly the giant-killing of Roy of The Rovers type. They're not even in the Low-land league as far as I know, never mind the 40(?) team SPFL. Reading snippets online it seems the Dons had a perfectly good goal ruled out for offside which was never off-side and Darville's goal was a deflection. But such is life in the cup and when you've no luck, as is currently the case with Goodwin, you've no luck.

Did a great job with a couple of teams, brought Smirren on, but seems like the Dons job has been a step too far for the guy. I feel a bit sorry for him to be honest because the Dons fans think they've a team that should at least be third in Scotland but their board haven't invested much and are in the shadow of Hearts.

Pushing Goodwin out now is probably inevitable but who do they get in and will they back him. Dons had a good manager in ex-Hun McInnes who had them going reasonably well and I think won silverware with them. Their fans thought he was underachieving so he got the door. They replaced him with ex-Don Considine? I think and he fared a lot worse. Dumped him and got in the, at the time, high performing Goodwin who has overseen probably the worst single game result in their club's history. Who'll they get next 🤷‍♂️

The talk already is of Lambert.

Neil Lennon will undoubtedly throw his hat in the ring.

Shaun Maloney maybe?

That's just lads with Celtic connections.

I saw the offside goal. An absolute howler of a decision. Genuinely awful. Ange was talking about teams getting relegated as a result of poor VAR decisions, well here is a guy whose career is fucked as a result of a poor decision with no VAR.

Darvel were well worth the win. Played lovely stuff...6th tier!

Lennon still has ideas about himself alright but I doubt the Dons would touch him over losing the Hibs dressing room so dramatically. That seems to be the current issue for Goodwin.

Maloney got punted very quickly, too quickly, from Hibs BUT I still think there's a question mark over him.

Lambert? Not sure what he's done of note in management in the last few years tbh. Good with Norwich but that was well over a decade ago I think.

If I was a Dons fan (perish the thought) I'd be looking for someone like Steve Clarke and maybe see would he be interested in doing it initially along with his Scotland gig. He's a really good manager who knows the SPL intimately. The players there couldn't help but buy in to him. He's done it at a lot of good levels.

Callum Davidson maybe? I thought Tommy Wright got a bit of a raw deal but whether the Dons players would buy into him or not would be another question.

Difficult to know tbh - though I believe that a guy we were told was a very successful manager in Scotland up to relatively recently is just temporarily out of work - step forward (carefully ;)) Slippy G.

With JJ gone to Berlin, sold for a reported 7.5M rising to 10M with add ons, it looks like GG is edging for the door too.

Surprised that he's going for so relatively little given it's goalscorers usually realize the highest prices and he's shown himself to be a very good goal-scorer in both the Dutch and Scottish leagues. Seems though he's going for the big wages to a US club Atlanta. Think Celtic are going to be getting as little as 4M in the deal (one suspects there must have been a buy out clause) but GG is due to make it big on wages.

And subject to international clearance Celtic have signed the South Korean striker Oh (who scored a couple in the WC finals). He's 21 so presumably more of a project signing.

I'll be sorry to see GG go. Think he had it all and was a great replacement option to the completely different Kyogo against some stuffy defences. Great man to hold up the ball too.

Less worried about the departure of JJ as we made big profit on him and in Johnson we appear to already have a more than able replacement (albeit still early days in his Celtic career)

Did Oh not give up his spot for Son in the WC?

He's nowhere near as handsome as the other Korean buck we were flashing our knickers at but he looks like the kinda unit we need. Not quite the same mould as Kyogo and not quite the same mould as GG but somewhere un between.

I've been chatting to some lads who are convinced GG has changed his mind and wants to stay but big Ange has already moved on. No idea if it's true... prolly not.

Hadn't realised we were sniffing around two different Korean strikers in this window tbh so you could well be right I may be conflating the two.

As for GG and Ange moving on Ange's previously said he's only interested in players who want to be playing for Celtic. Not sure it was directed at GG at the time but wouldn't be completely surprised if he's now mentally moved on from GG. Bit of a shame but I guess that's football.

Ange has had a golden touch on almost everything he's done with Celtic, so it might appear churlish to complain, but imho he's under-utilized GG.
