The Official Celtic Thread

Will the Israeli connection be an issue for the Celtic fans?

I think it's a cool appointment. His first proper test as a manager
I don't think you'll find a more dyed in the wool Celtic supporter than Soundy, and he is always railing against Anti Semitism, so on that basis if he is reflective of your average Celtic supporter hard to see it being an issue tbh.

It wouldn't surprise me if he buys one of those half and half jerseys, a combination of a Celtic and Israeli one. In fairness to him, he is always one step ahead of the pack.

CaptainSensible returns with his usual type of post that passes for wit in some quarters.

As I've said previously, not that CS cares when he tries to ascribe an attitude towards RK to me, I think RK would be a mixed bag. There's no doubt he has baggage but then again he's a reasonably successful relatively young coach.

I think I'd prefer giving the gig to MO'N until someone better becomes available though.

Wilfred Nancy < Robbie Keane < MO'N < Unai Emery (not that we'd get him alas)

But as we've seen Celtic have a board who couldn't give a stuff as to what the fans want, so Robbie Keane has that going for him.

Can't see anyone being happy with Robbie Keane.

it would be another mis-step.

Smacks of another "up yours" from the Board (who control the comings and goings at the club) to the Fans (who finance the club and think they should have a say in how the club is run - very seldom works that way).

I think Robbie Keane would be a divisive figure, the complete opposite of what Martin O'Neill was. MON got the fans back on side with the Board in a kind of "agree to disagree" way but appointing RK given his two major draw backs would imho just stoke the Board v Fans fire again, and a club divided along such lines will find it very difficult to prosper. The fallout from last season's AGM needs mended, not amplifying.

RK managed a club with reprehensible fans - many hooligans and who sing disgusting anti arab songs. They were banned from attending a match against Aston Villa recently I think in a country well used to dealing with football hooliganism. They even initially ran amok in Amsterdam til they had manners put on them.

RK is also a relatively inexperienced manager, though to be fair, he's been reasonably successful.

Glasgow, and indeed Scotland in general, is a goldfish bowl when it comes to football and everything is under the microscope for the Celtic and The Rangers managers. The fans of other clubs will be on his back and the media will be jumping on any story they can. The last thing the incoming Celtic manager will need is a controversy in place before he even arrives.

It's for these reasons I hope Celtic don't appoint Robbie Keane, but if they do then we must hope he makes a good fist of it. He should surely be a vast improvement on Wilfred Nancy. 🙏

All of this.

It's not just the divisive appointment. Which Keane undoubtedly is, it's the fact an unpopular appointment (an executive decision) will be made by a non-executive director.... meanwhile the CEO is trousering a million quid.
