The Official Celtic Thread

The SPL doesnt exist any more.
It's the SPFL.

It does seem a bit of a left field and highly risky move.

But the board aren't capable of recruiting players, let alone a manager.

It's going to be interesting anyway.
Wasn't Ange exactly the same? Pretty left field. Pundits were laughing their holes off. 2 years later off to a big 6 team in the PL and won the EL.

Not really comparing like with like comparing Ange and Nancy imho. Yes they both came from non-European management backgrounds, but Ange had been successful in a number of teams prior to coming to Celtic, Nancy just once, and most importantly imho, Ange had the pre-season to work with in terms of getting his message across and getting in some new players for his system.

Nancy was parachuted in mid-season, days prior to three very big games, and decided to change what had been a winning formula to impose his own ideas.

Not saying Nancy won't be a success (too early to say one way or t'other at this stage) but I think that was a major gamble by him that's failed and it means he's gotten off to a shaky start. Hopefully he has his head on right for the LC final

Easy to say that in hindsight but Ange was still a left field appointment with no experience in Europe and no Uefa coaching licence. Yes his CV was more impressive but it was a risk and he was someone very few, if any Celtic fans had heard of.

Pretty clear it drove Ange on rather than dragged him under. I'd forgotten Ange hadn't a European Coaching License when he first came. (y)

Yes Ange was an unknown, as was Nancy. But there's a myriad of unknowns out there - if you think every unknown has the potential to be as successful with Celtic as Ange was then I admire your positivity/ marvel at your naivete (delete as appropriate).

It's early doors no doubt with Nancy, but against the background of turmoil between the Board and the Fans this appointment will have less understanding from the stands imho. For his own good, and by extension that of the Club, Board, and Fans, Nancy will have to get the team sorted pronto. I think that's more important than Nancy putting his stamp on the team at the moment.

He can bed in better later but first silverware of the season is up for grabs on Sunday against a team who we should beat 9 times out of 10. I hope for Nancy's sake Sunday isn't the one time in 10 that they beat us.

If the silverware has been won (hopefully) then Nancy can pocket the resultant good will, and ease himself and his process, tactics, selections etc in to place. Trying to "fix" something that was working very very well just a couple of days after his arrival and against the strongest opponents in the league wasn't the best plan he ever had imho.

Huge mistake
Yeah but O'Neill was wanting away for a while. Wants to go back to talking shite on the wireless.

I wouldn't dig anyone out over the reception for Ange.

Like now, we were all frustrated.

I think i remember saying myself that this is what the club signed up for with him...

Unlike now, where it's the middle of the season.

I sincerely hope this punt works.
