The Official Celtic Thread

I couldn't sleep saturday night so watched a bit of the game against DC United. DC didn't play so great but i thought Celtic played some really nice stuff. They look fairly well prepared for the sason. I then watched most of the game last night vs Man City. Celtic started with a near enough first XI bar CCV and AJ. Both teams at a different stage of their preparations but for the purposes of annoying a few people, Celtic confirmed their status as British Champions, running rings around their inferior opponents:
The English team came back into it when Celtic weakened the side but were able to turn it up again when needed. Proving, as if any further proof were needed that if Celtic were to play in the English Premiership, they'd get at least 100 points every season. I hope Celtic play a few more reserves against Chelsea at the weekend to give the boys a bit of a run out:
Obviously it means nothing but Celtic looked sharp and the football was really good. The kid Donovan came on at right back and did himself no harm. Breaking through the press against a very good side was really impressive.

Another comfortable win for Celtic to wrap up pre season.

Chelsea we're miles and miles off it against their far superior opponents.

Goals from MOR, Kyogo in the first half. Celtic made loads of changes late on and got another couple of goals from Palma and MJ.

The wee lad Donovan was adjudged to have fouled in the box.... very harsh on the child to gift Chelsea a consolation from the spot.

Maeda had to go off injured in the first half which is a bit of a worry. I hope it was just a precaution.

Hopefully the Board won't use our good pre-season results as an excuse (as though they ever need any) not to strengthen our squad.

We badly need to freshen up the squad - need a big mobile striker like Idah but the fee and salary might be too much for him (though Johnston as a makeweight is a possibility) - a replacement for MOR who's more a when than if; and offload either Rocky or Lagerbielke and get in a first team centrehalf. Hopefully we can hang on to Hatate and Kyogo this season.

Tailor is in his last year so even if we do get in the Wolves left back on loan we either need to sign Tailor up as a back up or get in someone else. Seighurst is gone so need another backup keeper

The season starts next weekend and we are WELL short of a suitable squad - despite having CL money and glamour which should help attract prospective transfers/loanees.

I'm with you... although I'm such a big baby I refuse to believe MOR is away.

Alas, given the football finances the way they are, and it being a professional game with players on eyewatering salaries it's about money to a large degree, Celtic are unlikely to be able to retain the services of our top players when clubs with bigger wallets come calling.

O'Riley is a quality player and once the haggling over the price is done, I think it inevitable that he'll leave. A player we took from relative obscurity and polished up into a gem, but I think he's outgrown the SPL tbh. It's not as though we need the money mind but the financial model used by our Board, while not universally popular, does work - in stark contrast to the rotten mob who seem to be ricocheting from one financial crisis to another in a vain attempt to overtake us.

Story goes that Idah has thrown his toys out of the pram at Norwich and "missed the plane" that was taking them on a pre-season tour. That may benefit Celtic in their efforts to sign Idah who seems to want to come to Celtic but tbh it leaves a bit of a bad taste in the mouth. I wouldn't like any of our players downing tools to engineer a move for less than the club's valuation.

Hopefully if the transfer does go ahead it can be sorted amicably to the satisfaction of all parties.

Had to go back for his phone - these things happen

It'll be great to see how all the new guys get on this afternoon.....

With Maeda out, MJ is our covering striker....

I fully expect we'll still do well domestically. I can't fathom why the Celtic board are so lacking in ambition to imrove in Europe. This is the last year there's direct qualification to the CL.

4-0

Kilmarnock conceding the same number of goals as Manchester City and Chelsea against the champs.

It could have been worse for the Ayrshire side had the officials decided to apply the laws of the game. Kyogo completely wiped out late on.... no pen.

Kilmarnock came with damage limitation in mind. Reo, Calmac and MOR were terrific throughout.
