It's a weird one. Ignoring the selection of Osborne (especially ahead of Darcy), Farell again, and Clarkson, as hard as that is to do, it seems as if they're trying to have their cake and eat it too.
Woodward brought a massive squad in 2005 to allow for the scenarios where a larger player base allows for good training numbers when injuries occur.
Farell and the coaches have gone for "training panelists" since before the Argentina game and I do believe that hurts the Lions "brand" that they like to big up so much.
Clearly Ashman and Sutherland are needed, position wise to wear the bibs in training.
I guess you can argue that this time round the players know exactly where they stand in relation to their squad status
