I must say I'm really excited about this Lions tour, as I am for every Lions tour.

I reckon Farrell is going to play it safe though when picking Irish players, and a few lads who should be on the plane probably won't be on it, all in the name of balance and optics.

My call for #10 is Fin Russel. I don't agree with that, but it's what my gut tells me.

I think he'll give captain to Itoje.

Who will he take from Ireland?

Sheehan and Porter are definites. I actually think Crowley will go too. Beirne? Maybe. VDF, Lowe, JGP all in with a chance too.

If Sam Prendegast is picked for the Lions then I am revoking my citizenship.

I like the Lions as it's a recognition of the best players in these islands and there's a chance to put the Antipodeans in their place - down and under

But there have been some strange selections over the years - like that mullet headed Leinster hooker Shane Byrne - still can't believe he played in two tests with the Lions

If Prendergast gets selected given his body of International work to date it would be a travesty. He's got youth on his side and may, eventually, be good enough. But at the moment he's not even good enough to be the first choice Irish out-half!

40 player squad is expected. They need to cater for the early game vs Argentina and may be keen to allowe injured players time to recover.
That would arguably make a shambles of the whole thing like the close calls up did under Gatland
