The Official Athletics Thread

yeah he's favourite, Jakob wont touch him but No rabbits means the field are in play

I don't see Anyone taking it on really, Myers would be the obvious candidate but he was happy to sit in Brussels

It puts all the rest in play, Hocker, Whiteman, Strand shit even Nader who has stank all year.

I reckon I'll pick Kerr over the field but this isn't a DL
Kerr will have way too much for them if he brings anything like the form he showed earlier in the summer/season. I don’t really get the racing strategy - or lack of one more like. Thankfully his approach isn’t universally followed and the rest toe the line regularly.

The only hope for the field is that they catch Kerr out in a dust up. He doesn't usually take it on early in big races so that might happen. He's red-hot favourite
I’d be shocked if he isn’t on his bike with 300m to go

Assume the Irish contingent will find it hard with limited races but they delivered when it mattered

What do people think of next year's European Games in Istanbul? Is it likely to have a decent field? I see that the athletics is a team event, but it also works for Olympic qualifying. Thinking of making a holiday of it with the family. Lots of sports, including swimming and gymnastics, so should be cool.

Ah you'll have a great time.

From an athletics perspective it's the European Team Champs, Ireland are Div 2 so you're not likely to see many of the stars . and it'll be on over 3 days midweek.

it was in Madrid last year and the weekend sessions were well attended but if I remeber correctly Ireland's sessions were fairly empty

Outside of the premier events it's difficult to pick the good atmosphere ones.

The racing will be good, and if you'll be able to get load of photos of your kids with the athletes.

Thanks EG

@jeepers I should say you'll need to be prepared to roll with it a bit.

They had world cross in Budapest a few years ago and there were basically no fan facilities (they were a late replacement host)

I wouldn't centre my holiday around it. Plenty of the sessions will be one man and his dog.

It all depends on the hosting committee how these things go.

Also there is a chance it could be fantastic, you'll see some great sport and you'll be surprised at how much access you'll get to the whole thing.

World's are on in China In Sept next year also so even the Irish "names" will likely skip this.

Becker and Doyle and the likes will probably be there alright.

Also I would say the Athletics In stadium experience us hugely dependent on how your country is fairing out.

No Mark Austrian fellas doing the LJ will only get you so far
