The Official Athletics Thread

Were the Morton Games always this close to Cork's meeting? Unfortunately, it seems to be affecting the second city recently.......

I was thinking these last few days, I have a feeling I was present the night of the Sidney Marree mile. What year was that?

They have been on Wed/ Friday for the last 10 years or so anyway.

Morton only got their Bronze label status in the last 3 or 4 years and that seems to have effected cork badly.

You need a level of drugs testing for continental tour status which I think was yhe difference.

Looking at the programme the other night the sponsors aren't stepping up the way they used to. A good chunk of the races were city council sponsored or John Buckley.

Not a sniff of any big corporates or legal firms or whatever that Is probably the difference

Also I'd say the Irish Athletes aren't doing their bit for Cork. Senior championships in 2 weeks ago so plenty of time.

Matlock probably knows more though

They've had the two meets on Wednesday / Saturday of the same week this past few years - presumably so athletes could do the two in a single visit to Ireland. Morton always the big brother in that pairing though...

Will Geordie B get the season back on track tonight - here we go with the steeple.

Edit - I guess not. Strange race with only Koech going with the pacer then finding himself miles in front with 800 to go. He might have done the sub-8 if there was someone with him
