The Official Athletics Thread

D'ye see the video of Tebogo advising Gout² to lower his sights a little. What do the Athletics Intelligentsia of the PRoC S.F. make of that?

1990 called. They want their country back.
Femke. 800 outdoor. This could be bigger than Bloomsday ffs!!!
Ah, but C., which Bloomsday character would she be? Not Molly obviously - or Bella Cohen either.

Maybe the shop girl arranging the fruit hamper for Blazes Boylan? Just doing what the tan-shoed blue-socked langer wanted so she could get him out the door quickly and close up the shop to go training.

Maybe one of the Dedalus sisters - they had no choice but to be skinny

That was hard assed from Tebogo.

Gout was walking behind him.

His general point is correct I'd rather see Gout at world U20s than Commies for instance. Win World Gold rather than take a beating from Canadians , Jamaicans and Brits. His 19:67 was Flojo tastic in terms of wind. 7 fellas PB'd

On the other hand he's not that much of on outlier either.

Erriyon Knighton (Juice)
Quincy Wilson
Cooper Lutkenhaus
Sam Ruthe
Hobbs Kessler

Even in Ireland albiet at a lower level Conor Kelly, Sean Doggett, Molly Daly are in the mix and nobody is saying they need to sit and build.

off the top of my head are all about recent schoolboy runners who've done alright against pros.

Quincy is probably a reasonable example for Gout. He's been up and down since he broke though, he's still raw and developing just like Gout and of those I'd take Gout all day long because of his long arms and legs. Quincy is a bit of a short arse.

But mostly I'd say Tebogo is just a hard bastard

Yep, putting him in his place.

He has a point about lads taking their time though - like I was saying about Coop on the previous page or two.

Look at Ava Crean this morning - announcing the least suprising injury in Irish Athletics. Having been flogged up and down the road in her later teenage years, she now has a significant "long term" hip injury and won't be running in Dublin. Sure, marathoners are different to sprinters and mid-distance operators but the strain on Luktenhaus and Gout Gout is still coming fairly young.

Funny you should ask, T. I was thinking more Miss Douce (bronze) or Miss Kennedy (gold) from The Sirens episode meself. And no prize for guessing which one Femke would want 🤔. Sonnez la cloche!

Ya the whole Ava Crean thing was always likely to end in injury unfortunately. The Coach appeared to be on a serious PR journey and she needed a bit of minding. Hopefully she can get herself healthy with a patient build up and then a more normal schedule for someone that age with the few years behind her that she has.
