The Official Athletics Thread

Meanwhile, it’s shocking, but not in the least surprising that RTE have pretty much ignored Lynch’s performance today. I’d say they haven’t a single journalist capable of even understanding what he has achieved.

If you’d said a few years ago that an Irish runner would notch low 2:06 in a marathon in 2026 you’d have been told to get your head examined. Top 10 as well and beat all the Brits at their home event.

Ah but Down and Roscommon had big wins……

Don’t get me wrong - the shoes and nutrition are worth some time, shur even lads like Lynch and Curtin down at sub 2.08 have benefited from the advancements compared to world class competitors like Mark C and John T…. But there is a cloud over Kenya in particular at the minute that I can’t look beyond.

It's funny though Sawe being a Barardelli athlete (and he's not blemishless) makes a difference

if he as a Frederico Rosa athlete I'd be writing him off without a second thought

Unfortunately that's what happens when the public become suspicious about athletics. Too much smoke etc

Ah look hopefully he is legit. Ole Ruth running 2.09 in Chicago in 2024 tipped me over the edge… I probably am generalizing which is wrong tbf. Let’s hope this crop are clean.
