Ciara Mageean sent her mam up to the Shankill road to get a Norn Iron Flag for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Here she is with Kate O'Connor

She spoke that time about how little shite there was on team NI and how nobody gave a shit about backgrounds.

Her and Andrew Trimble remain the only two people from Civic society up there that i have heard to discuss what it means to be Northern Irish and what a United Ireland might need to be so that they don't feel left out.

Ciara father was a Hurler for Down and she played Camogie underage.

None of this related directly to Threadys posted but relevant none the less.

I heard Trimble as well, I think it was on some RTE panel show, it was fascinating to listen to him. He spoke very well on the subject of the younger generation not caught up in UI or UK of NI, just want a Northern Ireland of their own.

In fairness, Wiffen, McLeneghan, Philip Doyle and even Rory McIlroy most of the time also manage the whole dual nation thing really well. I think it would have been tougher for them a generation or even fifteen years ago. They are right when they say that for the vast majority of people, background doesn't matter. The NI assembly has painted itself into a corner of total irrelevance and people are just getting on with life. There wasn't a single negative comment about Jack McMillan switching to team GB and winning Olympic gold either.

If background doesn't matter, then the flag should be no big deal either - you have 100% nordie prods wearing the tricolour at the Olympics, happy to be on the team - so the Norn Iron flag shouldn't matter at the Commonwealth games. I couldn't give a s***e about any of them waving the red hand - what matters is that they become the best athlete they can be.

Na Piarsaigh have no issue with the red hand although they are missing the thumb 😂

⭐ FIRST INDOORS POST OF THE SEASON⭐

Ray Flynn sems to be pulling together a decent lineup at Millrose on Feb 1:

- Fisher, Hocker, Wightman, Kerr and Beamish are supposedly all in the 2-miler - not sure why Wightman and Kerr wouldn't be in the mile

- Nuguse going for another Wannamaker - with last year's podium all entered again

- St. Pierre, Hull and Hitz seem to be the main movers in the women's mile

It's like beaujolais nouveau day.

I wonder does it mean that Nuguse is having a crack at the WR again. remember he had it for about 3 days last year before Jakob ran in Leivin and the wheels came off his season

Neither Kerr only back from injury nor Whiteman or Beamish, both made of glass would fancy that and it'd be too hot for Fisher too.
