12th for Gidey in 27:38 - small PB
18th for O'Leary in 27:41 - huge PB
39th for Dalton in 28:03 - big PB
100th for Michael Murphy in 29:00

Great running from them all but with 100 lads under the 29 mins, I never know what to make of this race

Even looking at 27:38 to 27:41. In any other race you'd think it was 12th and 13th! No, they squeezed another five lads between them. Christ, incredible really.

Incredible running, still think a top20 at world cross would have been a better route but impressive all the same
Agreed - but there’d need to be serious advance planning for a proper go at the World XC - only Fay seems to have it as his target all year.
Have these lads qualified for the European Championships with this run (I thought I saw that somewhere during the week as the reason for Valencia over Tallahassee)

Ya maybe they have but tbh there are other 10kms early in the track season to get the standard, now maybe the logic is that getting it now means they don’t need to peak twice in the season for the summer. It feels like a loss opportunity to not carry that Euro xc form into early Jan. I can understand Darragh Mc and Nick G but Jack O’L over 10k xc would have been a big chance for him to get a good result on the world stage.

Standard is 27:50

So Gidey and O'Leary are in. Dalton is not.

They need to do away with AutoQ certainly in the middle and long distances should go by ranking only.

There is no question in my mind that almost all of the elite 10k field in Valencia should have been in Florida and I blame WA and nobody else.

Gidey is looking like a monster on the roads hopefully he's shoots for Copenhagen

His road form has always been better than the track - be interesting to see if himself and Fearghal Curtin ever race each other.

Yesterday was a 5 sec PB for Gidey - but he seems to be able to hold that pace for a lot longer, judging by his HM racing. The big challenge is to carry that pace into the full - only the African lads seem to be able to do that with any consistency.

Agree with the WA ballsup - allowing a clash like yesterday is p***poor.
