Yeah bottom line the incentives are way off.Thing is though, Guapo, the world changes, times change. The world cross country started life as a "British Isles" race and gradually grew to a true global event. Seems like it's losing some of its appeal now as the money is either on the track or the roads. Evidently lots of elites do prefer to run the Valencia 10k. Looking at the 'man-made' hill there in the CC course...... They're not necessarily doing themselves too many favours with the courses.
it makes perfect sense from an athletes perspective like Jack O'Leary or Cormac Dalton to run a 10k standard in Valencia becuase there are so few opportunities (fast track 10s) to qualify
they would need to offer wild cards to Europe , America, Africa, Asia and Oceania to the following years world's for two 2 or 3 athletes from each region.
Maybe Olympics status for Cross would do it But this should be the Apex of the sport
