The Official Athletics Thread

2.34 for a 19 year old girl is already mighty impressive but for her 2nd or 3 rs marathon and with that little aerobic training base. Flipping hell. She just needs to avoid injury and she'll be taking another 10 mins off that in a year or two.

You're understating things drastically there..This level of talent in her 3rd marathon is unheard of.

Does your buddy know if she in a club?
The news reports said Back 2 Boston Running project AC in Limerick if that helps

Are we looking at Olympics?

It's like Carmona said, to be running 2:34 12 months after starting training indicates some serious talent.

Her aerobic base is small but she's at a place where if he stays injury free and trains consistently she will improve.

I think Oly standard is about 2:25 (skewed downwards by doping Kenyans)

But Julia Paternanan won Bronze in Tokyo qualify in close to last spot (80/88) with a 2:27pb.

Dublin isn't a particularly fast couse. She'd go a lot quicker in Valencia, Berlin, Chicago..After this She'll be in the elite pens in most races (not good enough yet for appearance fees) nor I would imagine will she qualify for carding from the government. They should be putting her on the 25k grant immediately but I suspect they won't.

She's not close to reaching her limit yet like.

Nothing is assured but yes you're talikg that level and maybe more

It will be fascinating to see how they proceed. Do they go for 2028 Olympics? They could, I'm sure. But they might go more conservative, play the long game. I'm guessing next year the aim will be sub 2:30, maybe around 2.28. Then look at 2:25. Does anyone know what her training has been like?

If they go the conservative route it could involve training for 10k and Halfs for the next year or two and then taking another serious run at the marathon. But the financial temptation of the 42.2 might be hard to resist.

NYC Sunday.

Last chance to see Bekele vs Kipchoge

Eliud has said its his last big marathon, going to run a 50k.in Saudi next

Hassan going again 9 weeks after Sydney
