The Official Athletics Thread

Saw the weirdest thing on the telly this morning. Knew a couple doing Lisbon marathon so said I'd tune in for a laugh. They were showing repeats of a French lad who came home in 10th place I believe. Here's the thing, or things. He was slipping as if he were on ice, fell flat at one stage. Now the paving stones were slippery looking and wet but his Adidas super shoes were not handling the ground at all. It gets weirder though. He had a phone in his hand, which I take it someone had handed him but still, wtf was he doing with a phone?!? He was about 50 metres from the finish, maybe 100. It's possible that the conditions where he was, right over by the barriers with the spectators, were worse than the main finishing area, but Christ it was NOT a good look, neither for the Adidas nor the course itself.

The old Adizero SLs had Continental Rubber on the sole for the bit of traction, the last two models got rid of that presumably to chase a few g off the weights.

Those runners used to be bulletproof but don't last pissing time any more.

I presume their carbons are similarish

Adidas defo seemed to have gone for the low weight over everything else - same gig with the old “one use” number last year. Jaysus, even the Mark I Vapors had 180 or so miles in them.

Remarkable story at the Dublin Marathon where 19-year-old Ava Crean from Limerick takes the women's national title in 2:34:12, a 9-minute PB - 6th overall.Crean had never run competitively before signing up for the Manchester Marathon in April - listing her target time as 3:30.
