The Official Athletics Thread

Solid run from Doyle. Coscoran gone backwards a bit. Not as much as Sarah Lavin mind; she looked sluggish. Luxo lad ran 8.15 for steeple, I'm guessing that's a bloody NR.
Some off results all over.

Marcel Jacobs 10.44

Sam Gillman was about 13:50

Coscoran 3:36

Beamish 8:17

I thought Doyle did alright but missed the move. Nordas looked good. Girma still needs a standard

Those Gerrys in the steeple look like they'll do damage. Ruppert particularly

Thanks Guapo, that's an excellent piece. Interesting discussion near the end about athletes not necessarily being based in Ireland. That is still the case in running but swimming and rowing have overcome the barrier - both sports now host world-clas squads in Ireland. That said, Wiffen and McSharry still do their day to day training in other countries - a blended system works for them. There's no right answer for the individual athlete but it's clear that having world-class performers living and training on your doorstep definitely motivates people in the sport and changes attitudes.

Another Hot and Sticky night in Paris (ooooh Matron)

English is in a good 800m field.

Yavi nowhere to be seen in the steeple. she's copped a few beatings and I'd guess needs to train.

Grant Holloway back after finishing dead last twice in China and Rabat

Paulinho and Darth Nasser back in the 400m. We get to measure Bella Whittaker and Klaver off them.

This one is about the men's 5000m and Sarah Healy in the 1500m closing the programme.

Should be good

Pound for pound etc., Healy, Doyle and English are the Irish track athletes currently in the best form. The 400m women are up and down.

Yavi always seems to just miss out.
