Great pic from Millrose the other night - Coghlan and Flynn - immediately previous owners of the Irish indoor and overall mile records - celebrate with the man who took both.

LOL, I'd say Coghlan would still give it a lash if you threw him a pair of shoes and a knicks.

He looks fit as a butchers dog in fairness.

I was always fond of Coughlan despite all the evidence that he's a bit of an insufferable prick.

A buddy of mine was selected for a BLE summer camp thing in about 1992, all up to Dublin for a weekend of coaching by the great man himself. My buddy was about 12.

Over trots the chairman who declares to the aspiring athletes that if you can't run 400m in less than 60s you're on a hiding to nothing. Off he trots belting it out a 59.9 second demo.

The kids set off trying to match him and end up mostly in floods of tears because they are only good for 62s or something at that stage.

My buddy became a pretty good soccer player after

Yeah, lots of people didn't like him but I'd align with you on this one Guapo - he had a sort of star quality that would draw you to him. Coghlan was box office. I remember being at a meeting in a hotel in Dublin around 15 years ago - a bunch of Europeans and yanks in the room, around 20 of us around the table. Coghlan was attending some sort of Failte Ireland thing in another room but walked into our room by accident. Well-tanned, perfect white teeth, sharp suit, engaging smile, good posture - even the non-athletics fans in the room were drawn to him

Chairman of the boards, broke world records and won a world championship too - wasn't just a 4th-in-the-Olympics merchant. A sports achiever ahead of his time in Ireland, he made the right move with the US links.

His Book is actually great (forward by An Taoiseach Bertie Ahearn)

The story of the M40 Sub 4 mile is excellent.

Ger Heartman got a ball bearing tack welded onto a screwdriver to keep his hip loose and moving.

Still one of the most incredible athletic feats on the books for my money.

Is that the "Chairman of The Boards" book or is there another one?

I see the Armagh City 5k is on tomorrow night. They’re expecting the usual big crowd of speedsters. There’s an incredible standard - I think they have the record for the highest ever number of sub-15s in a race (139 ?). LOL, you need a sub-16 to even get an entry. Gidey going for the triple crown of national records - looking to add the 5k to his 10k and HM. He’ll need a zippy 13:26 to do it.

Fair dues to them - there’s pretty much f**k all prize money but by hyping the event up, guaranteeing a fast pace and running it over 5 laps with a big audience and commentary over loudspeakers all the way around, they pull in the numbers every year ?

We're Spoiled for it tonight

If you're not watching Armagh you're surely watching the auld Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais Trophée EDF

Very good slate as usual for Leivin,

Jakob aiming to show em who's boss in the mile. Anything short of a WR and the "chatter" just gets louder. Naguse went 3:46:63 and shur he's just a pretender. Right?

Cathal Doyle is going in this also. Shooting for the Euro Indoor standard, he did well in Karlsruhe last week finished 4th and showed well. He ran a 1s PB for 3:37:x the 1500m standard for euros is 3:37. Some Swedish lad won it in his club vest. you love to see it.

Keep an eye on the Dutch fella Stefan Nillesson or something, he'll be good this year. Beat some serious operators in Paris and Ostrava,.we'll be seeing him a lot in Appeldorn I reckon

Womens 3000m is Gudef Tsegay and Frewanyi Hailu. This is a Boxing style "we just don't like each other" match up. Tsegay and her husband rule the roost in Ethiopian Athletics. Hailu left their training group and was subsequently not selected for Paris despite her being world indoor champ. Hailu went on TV and called her out for corruption and undue influence. Tsegay is no wilting violet either as Faith Kipyaygon found out. Elbows out everyone. Hailu is flying, she Solo'd 8:24 at some kiss me arse meet I watched a few weeks ago. Batocletti in there too

Mark English PBd (and NR'd) last week it'd be nice to see him break 1:45:00. Bryce Hoppel and Moula the second best Algerian fella In there.

Lavin in the 60m hurdles too.

The stream starts at 19:45
