The Official Arsenal Thread - Part 2

Focking bookmarked!!!!

Seriously though, it is a serious squad with a fantastic age profile with mostly positive contract siultuations.

But yes, seriously lacking a top top striker unfortunately.
I think Havertz is definitely good enough but I’d worry about him keeping fit.

But Victor isn’t anywhere near the type of player we need and I hate saying it as he works his bollocks off and was one of the reasons we won the league.

4 away games in a row is tough going but so far so good, honestly not too bottered about the ipswich game during the week but obviously
still want to win the game but might be better long term not to go far in the league cup esp when you need a midweek break when the latter rounds are on, then away again in the league next week.

On another note, you could really feel the monkey was off the back last night. Desperation to win was replaced by confidence. Last year we'd have tried to sit back and defend the 1-0.

The league cup is handy for getting minutes into legs that need them. That's about it though

Yeah, agree fully.
Last season we drew there and lost to Villa.

I thought the players did exceptionally well to keep their head last night.
The atmosphere, Sunderland’s tough style of play and the referee really tested them and a couple of seasons back we’d have dropped points.

I think for players like Dowman, Merino, Eze, Mosquera and Gyokeros that the cup games could be very important.
We need these lads ready to go for when we get injuries.

Good article here

It’s fucking crazy the amount of false narratives that are out there about Arsenal.

I text my son about 5 mins before the “pen” last night saying I feel they’ll get a penalty. I could just sense it.
We were being punished for everything and I was worried about our throw ins, not because I felt they were particularly long but I felt the ref was going to do us at any opportunity.

I never even considered Sunderland being punished for throw ins as I was expecting it not to happen anyway. What I didn’t know at the time and the article shows is that they were taking way more time for their throw ins.

The only narrative that holds any water is that we were a boring team to watch last season and a lot of that comes down to the tactics of the other teams playing low blocks. But I do get that one.

Narratives that are absolutely bollocks is that we wasted more time and were any more grabby in the box than any other team.
Or that we are a dirty team, how does that work out when we received the least cards last season?

I think a lot of this shite is started and spread by the likes of Neville and Carragher and it just seeps out to other analysts and down to fans and then possibly through the referees too which is a really bad thing for the game.

And to be clear, I thought we were reffed well last season in the prem but terribly for at least 2 season before and I hope this season doesn’t revert back to those ones.

💯

Arteta called out the ref in fairly strong terms too afterwards. Feels like he has to go over the top to nip this shit in the bud.

Pgmol need to explain the tolerance for Sunderland's time wasting imo

And the decision panel will probably decide it wasn’t a pen but where does that get us?
Only for Raya making that save we could have wrongly lost the game.
