The Official Arsenal Thread - Part 2

A very good thread there.

Appalling carry on by everybody involved, including the league for not having very clear and decisive guidelines.

These are tough situations for clubs to deal with especially, as you say, without clear guidance from the FA - who seem to be focused only on the "at risk" aspect.

Sexual assault allegations against footballers are sadly quite common and it's reasonable to assume that there's a mix of cases where the player is genuinely innocent and genuinely guilty. It feels excessive for every player to be stood down in a sitation where there are just allegations or even they've been brought in for questioning.

Certainly things get more serious if there are actual police charges filed - which I don't think is yet the case for this mysterious North London player.

Are clubs expected to conduct their own mini shadow investigation early on to form a view on how strongly they back the player? Feels messy and may even cause more problems if the club stands the player down - not only are they open to legal action from the player for financial reasons (if they don't pay him) but he may also argue that it hinders his ability to defend himself if the club are seen to indicate that there's both smoke & fire.

If the evidence isn't public and visceral (like the Greenwood case) then it puts the club in a very awkward position. At the pace at which UK justice moves you could lose a player (while still paying him) for well over a year who is then found entirely innocent...and as a result wants out of your club.

There was some evidence made public against this chap a couple of years back, as I recall, similar to Greenwood...tweets or WhatsApps or something, and now five complaints.

That might only be relating to London. Jesus knows if there were any complaints made in Madrid or wherever this totally mysterious character was earlier in his career.
