Well there never was an East Jerusalem until Jordan divided it, And the Arabs don't even call it Jerusaelm. Or anything like that.Its all Al Quds.

Jerusalem was even in the Ottoman Empire a largely Jewish city.Even when the surrounding areas were largely Bedouin.Jerusalem had a large Jewish demograph for its small size

Israel tended to use precision strikes on buildings and they would notify and give warnings that they were going to target a building. People still got killed, but it wasn't for the most part indiscriminate shelling of residential areas like Russia are doing in Ukraine.
