The Next Uachtarán na hÉireann

Catherine Connolly has no business in comments about foreign affairs, she is President of Ireland, thats her brief

Can you tell us where the President of Ireland erred on this:

It came after Ms Connolly deplored “deliberate assaults on international law,” which she said had underpinned world peace and security for eighty years.

President Connolly said “we must name them (deliberate assaults) as such, without euphemism and without equivocation".

Foreign relations is the exclusive responsibility of the Government. That’s where she erred.

Can you tell us where the President erred in what she actually said, or is it not the content of what she actually said but the very fact that she said anything at all that has you upset?

Should we just all accept atrocities around the world and never comment when they happen and leave it to the Irish Government to comment on it if they feel of a mind to?

She has ways of addressing that with the Taoiseach directly. The President should not be undermining the Government or our Diplomatic Relations in her public comments.

It risks damaging our relationship with the American Government in particular.

You and I are much more free to speak on issues that the President.

So you can't point out any error in what she's said. It's the fact that she actually said it rather than staying shtum is what upsets you. Why do you think the Government failed to say it?

Considering how deranged the current US administration is it's nigh on impossible to have normal and cordial relations with them, no point in antagonising them maybe but they're so unhinged that the White House could lash out at anytime regardless of how much we doff our caps to them.

What she said risks antagonising them. Her silence wouldn’t have been a betrayal of her beliefs.

👍
Exactly Yer.
She expressed an opinion, that's all.
No need to get one's jocks in a twist over it.

Maybe the Aras should send the text of any speeches she plans to make to the Oval Office for prior approval before she delivers them?

How far should we bend over to appease the orange ape?
