The Next Uachtarán na hÉireann

The problem is that the political right in this country are too rural and agricultural. The likes of Independent Ireland have no support in our cities. KOF got elected on a personal vote.
They are only on the go 2 years this month, Impossible to gauge their support at the moment. The next GE will show where they are at.
Most TDs (bar SF) are elected on a personal vote.

True but I look at who founded them and are leading the party.

Collins, O’Donoghue and Fitzmaurice.

Those lads wouldn’t know a tap about the issues facing urban Ireland if it hit them in the face. They speak the language of farmers and of rural Ireland. KOF was the only TD added and he was a very well known politician in Cork to begin with.

So you have to live in urban Ireland to know issues facing it? That is a very interesting take.

No but if you’re a party who has to have a spokesperson on ‘Urban Affairs’ that’s indicative of a party that is very rural in it’s thinking.

They’ll do well with farmers but I can’t see them penetrating beyond that in their current form.

Do no other party have spokepeople on urban affairs? Shame on them if that is the case.

O Donoghue went from 6k Fp to 10k at last election since joining the party, is there that many farmers in Limerick?

O’Donoghue represents Limerick County so his increased vote comes from rural Limerick.

What would an urban affairs spokesperson achieve other than to make it look like on the surface that you’re in tune with cities and towns? Has KOF done anything specific to advance the interests of urban people?

You said doing well with farmers? More and more people are moving from urban areas to rural.

Highlight issues effecting cities? In KOF's case, specifically Cork City

Wasn't he the only local TD to highlight that ridiculous boundary payments? TBF, he isn't in government so he cant do much bar highlight. What have the elected government TDs done to advance the issues of urban people in Cork. POS was on the missing list till FF's presidential election debacle. MM doesn't even know Cork exists.

Farmers and rural people are one constituency as far as I’m concerned.

Housing obviously is the number one issue but for me the next biggest issue for cities is infrastructure along with access to services. Public transport, roads, access to schools and healthcare. Maybe he’s been very strong on these issues but I’ve missed it.

Crime is another big issue in large urban centres. He talks a good game on crime in fairness.

Independent ireland have FF/FG DNA, if they have enough TD's next time and get the opportunity to be part of the Goverment, they'll take it in exachange for some goodies, didn't they all support Simon Harris in a no confidence vote in October, there is space further right for a political party to prosper, but Aontú and Independent Ireland are too chicken to go there.

Aontu are left wing on financial, right wing on social, where would you have them land? Independent Ireland are right wing already, do you think they should go full far right?
