I certainly don' think they should. If SF put someone forward for the gig in opposition to Connolly, it'll effectively be handing the race to McGuinness. It might be a two horse race if SF row in behind Connolly but still McGuiness's to lose I think

i feel the same. would rather they were more then just 2 candidates but it would be foolish for SF to split the left vote if it is just going to be the 2 going for the house.

Lynn Boylan of SF is being mentioned now as a potential candidate, less risky than MLM but imho unlikely to win and I'd say she would struggle with the inevitable hostility purely for being a SF candidate.

For her own sake I'd say keep out of it.

I have to tell you party members don’t see it that way.

I’d rather Connolly than MLMD tbh. The idea that a SF member would be Supreme Commander of the Defence Forces is an insult to all those who died serving the state having been murdered by her friends.

Very good point there, as such so if Moan got in, then those that she answers to, as in the PIRA Army Council, would therefore be,de facto, the Supreme Commanders of our Defence Forces.
