The Next Uachtarán na hÉireann

FF had picked a candidate who proved utterly unelectable with a Director of Elections Chambers who should have been concentrating on the Budget right in the middle of the race.

But it seems MM didn’t trust anyone else in his party other than his toady to oversee Calamity James’s run for the Aras.

Yet Micheal Martin presumed to lecture others about “a very serious lack of judgement” like his selected candidate liked to lecture people about rules he thought don’t really apply to him.
Brilliant post - let's see if there is anyone in FF man enough to see off the MM-JC partnership.

I’m open to correction but I believe he said tax was paid.

He paid yer man back the money, albeit after too long but like many at the time he was in financial difficulty so it’s believable and understandable that cash flow was an issue, it’s not necessarily a case of him shafting the tenant for the sake of it.

Like I said it’s grubby and unbecoming but far from campaign ending….unless there was further dirty laundry to be aired.
Gavin strikes me as a fairly private person, Im not sure he has the ability to roll with the punches like this.
Disagree completely

If he was in financial difficulty, like most of th country were at the time, he will have noticed that the rent continued to come in. He would have been balancing the books to make his own repayments, no way he would have not noticed that money. He ignored all of the calls he was getting from the tenant, emails to his personal and work accounts. Whether he paid tax on the income is neither here nor there actually, he also did not have the property registered. The bottom line is that he knew he was unfairly holding 3k of someone else's money at a time where very few had any comfort or surplus, given the timing of it the whole thing is unforgivable. Bear in mind he was on a state salary which was guaranteed while those in the private sector were all taking pay cuts and fearing for their jobs

Anyway, he knows this too, and has stood aside as a result. His issue now is that he has tarnished his image massively outside of politics also, just at a time when he would have been well positioned to have done quite well from it all. I'd say he has just lost many multiples of that 3k now
