The Next Uachtarán na hÉireann

In addition people who advocate spoiling a vote, or those who spoil their vote, which will be discarded in the count and which is equivalent to a non vote, have no business complaining about the caliber of the candidates or indeed criticising the electoral process
Spoiling a vote is actually a direct complaint about the calibre of candidates. Also if someone makes the effort to vote on the day be it spoiling it or not, they have every right to criticise the candidates and the electoral process.
Absolute ignorance to suggest otherwise.

Spot on, as though you are obliged to vote for the least awful candidate. In this case that candidate is HH but I still couldn't vote for her.

The ignorance is in believing that a spoilt vote, whilst it may garner some publicity, will have any impact in determining the ultimate outcome of the election

Does SF have a party whip?

Is that you indulging in WHATABOUTERY Cranky? 😂

As it happens yes SF does on occasion apply a whip. Not as often as FFG mind but it underlines the point.

While the President can’t always directly affect the day to day lives of citizens they can choose to sign off on legislation or put it to the Council of State. And they are our representative abroad espousing the ethos of the people in general.

Don’t think it’ll affect the outcome of this election - not seen anyone suggest it would - but it would very likely affect the next one. Especially if the number of spoilt votes is more than the gap between any two of the candidates.

And it would certainly shorten the time left for MM at the top of FF if there’s a very large number of spoilt votes, as distinct from abstentions
