The cost of hotels, eating out, activities. Little wonder people arent returning.

Nail on the head!

The prices charged for staying in hotels in this country are a sick joke. When it's cheaper for Irish people to fly abroad to stay in a Hotel for a week than to stay in one here, and then put the cost of eating out on top of that, it's a wonder anyone can afford a hotel holiday in this country tbh.

Madness - the Government now just handing out increases in the minimum wage that are higher than inflation on an annual basis is huge burden on hospitality industry (and other sectors) but they continue to do so as initial reaction is positive.
Likewise councils just ramping up rates on existing premises (mostly bars, restaurants) to make up the shortfall from empty premises (primarily retail) is another huge cost that the customer ultimately pays for.
Light and heat costs also crucifying small business operators.
When even Wetherspoons decides that it is not viable to continue operating in a city the size of Cork, you know that things have gone seriously out of kilter.
As per Yermon above - even allowing for cost of flights, it's cheaper to spend a week or two abroad than it is to stay put!! Makes no sense.
I know loads of people (myself included) that would have stayed in Dublin for an AI semi final 5 or 10 years ago but made no sense to do so few weeks ago.
