O'Malley, whom I respect a lot, is correct. You do get money which you did not work for yourself. But that doesn't detract from it being up to a parent to pass on their wealth to their children, if they so wish. Also a case for other relations. Not so sure about non-relations.

Im sorry but that is total codwhallop.

If you work hard, get a loan, pay your mortgage, vat, stamp duty. Each step away a long the line you are paying tax on your home. Be it VAT on utilities or materials or LPT you are paying tax on that throughout your life.

If you want to leave it to your children it should be tax free. Its outrageous the government dips your pocket again. And the tax free allowance is hopelessly inadequate given how house prices have gone.

It should be abolished.
