ESRI spokesperson on RTE’s 1oock news saying the FFG budget will have the wealthier an average of 1.3% worse off while the lower paid will be an average of 2.5% (almost twice as much) worse off

And the Government say it’s “a targeted budget”. Easy to see who FFG want to target and who they want to see after. Cnuts!

Rightly or wrongly they looked after people who don’t work the most. Withdrawing once off measures was always going to bite people.

They look after the people who vote for them. Lower paid people will never vote FG or FF regardless of what they do, so why waste money on them?

No, they take 7.5% of the value of the home annually for the first three years, a maximum of 22.5% in total.

They most certainly do not take people's homes.

Think you are slightly wrong with the context - they do not take people's homes yes but they can come looking for the money after the death of the person which results in the sale of the house.
The fair deal as you say has locked in %'s and for all the world is a loan.
For couples its 3.75% as they take into account half.

So after a death, If your house is valued at 500k and it's the 22.5% rate that's 112k (give or take) owed, not a lot of families will be able to pay that which results in the house going on the market, and there could be a situation where the persons husband/wife partner still is fully coherent physically and mentally able to care for themselves meaning they have to look for a new house to live in.

All classes of taxpayers are worse off so no one was l"ooked after". Secondly, how can you be assured that the less well off "don't work the most". A lot of people do a lot of poorly paid menial work to pay the bills and get by and are undeserving of your (FF) labelling of them.
