The next Government

Who will form the next government

  • Total voters
    56
  • Poll closed .
This might work out well for SF long term, They will claim a vote fro independents is a vote for FF, FG, It might plant a seed in the minds
of some voters,
Probably the first time in the history of the state that there is a clear Left/Right Divide between Govt and opposition.

Before there would either have been FF or FG in opposition or Lab/Green in Govt.

If a coherent popular alternative doesn't emerge in the next 5 years it'll take a 2008 financial crash level of disruption for the Status quo to be upset.

And there will be a downturn and a recession in the next 5 years you can be sure of it. The UK economy is fucked, Trump back in charge in Yankland and our tax take already heavily reliant on windfall corporation tax income is shaping up for a nice little storm ahead.

I agree with your logic, Trump may lash on taxes on exports that we send to US and indeed US multi nationals may fall in line over there and rather than expanding/ investing here, they will look to be patriotic and do it there instead.

The economy of course works in cycles, good times currently, but for how long ?

A lot depends on how you define "good times", if people driving around in outsized cars which they can barely manage and going on multiple foreign trips a year via Ryanair counts as good times then give me "hard times" anyday.

This government will be the worst since Brian Cowen was Taoiseach, you can bookmark that.

Maybe it wii but obviously hope not .Any government SF led would have been worse. Populist Rhetoric will only get you so far, they couldn't even agree or even try to form a left alliance in opposition, SF raison d'etre is a united Ireland ,conversely they have done more to damage this state and that ambition than many within their rank think.
Another 5 years awaits of MLMD " I'm an Irish Mammy" opposition awaits if she's left in charge.
If this gov has any hope of dealing with the housing crisis it needs to cut the red tape and get serviceable land into the pipestream of the building industry. Builders will look elsewhere if that's not forthcoming, personally I think every political party sold the electorate a pup with their housing auction politics numbers.
