The next Government

Who will form the next government

  • Total voters
    56
  • Poll closed .
If going along with government on migration has cost SF it's popularity where does that vote then go.

Can't believe the left haven't come together under the one umbrella to form a legitimate threat.

Same ol' same ol' on the way.

Not just migration. When they were riding high in the polls, they started banging on incessantly about how they'd have a border poll when in government and focused less on housing and health which is where they had gained in the polls.
The die-hard old stock Shinners won't admit it but a border poll is so far down most people's list of priorities, it doesn't even register.

I'm sure some of the younger tds/ Public reps in SF roll their eyes and mutter under their breath when MLMD is sent up to the plinth at Ard Fheis with yet another army council scripted speech extolling the importance of a border poll ASAP.

The left's best hope in medium-long term is perhaps for split in SF with those focusing on health, housing etc going their own way and letting the old school rump fend for themselves.

At the moment we have a nominally right wing government but who have some of the most progressive tax policies in Europe and have introduced one of the highest minimum wages but cannot manage spending (generally a strength of parties operating on the right). They spend more than most countries on health but get very little in return in terms of productivity and efficiency.

Agreed, They completely read the room wrong re a BP, A couple of years ago MLMD was on a fund raising trip to Australia, She told
people at a dinner that the question of unity is debated whenever irish people meet up, Bonkers stuff,

SF supporters wanted a hardline on immigration.

They wouldn't set themselves opposed to the current shitshow and they've lost half their vote.

The polling supports this.

I'd say next time out you will have an actual conversative right party in a coalition government as events like the Weekend's in Roscommon start to become a regular occurrence.

I know many SF people who are very supportive of migrants, Of course there are others who would take the opposite view,
That is where SF are in a bind, Matt Carthy was on rte radio saturday lunchtime , He spoke out of both sides of his mouth on the issue,
I still say SF will poll better than recent polls, possibly 20%, the campaign could throw up a few curveballs yet,

I'd agree with this. There will be a higher turnout for GE than for euros/locals and feeling among all campaigns is that this will favour opposition parties more than government.
Also think that although FG may get more first preference votes than FF, FF may take more seats as they will transfer better than FG's large cohort of first time candidates with little or no profile or personal vote behind them.

yea not so sure......agree on first time candidates for FG but they'll get more first preferences than FF.

The high volume of new candidates FG are fielding will count against them, FF are 5/2 to win most seats, I would fancy them to do so,
If Soundman was still with us he would be foaming at the mouth now to get at me,

Americans will queue for over an hour to vote a Georgian woman living in Kerry drove to Dublin to vote in their election and yet between 60 and 65% will only vote in our general election and the remainder will shout loudest over the result.
