We invest very little in infrastructure that we all need and our multi-nationals demand.

What are they even doing?

No excuses as the cash is there.

Failure gets promoted
Can anyone even remember a good Minister for Health?

I cannot as it is just one disaster after another and then after about 3 years they all tend to simply give up and promise to fix it all next time if we vote for them.

Kids waiting up to 5 years for life changing surgery appointments while a Minister tells us that all cases are "Not the same".

Kids mental health?

We spend one of the highest spends per capita and we get some of the worst outcomes.

Then hand the big job to some other sap for a few years as they were the experts on it while in opposition or on the back bench for the Govt parties.

That portfolio is an absolute poison chalice.
As you said, mental health services are shocking (know that from personal experience), same with consultant wait times, wait lists etc.

It is clearly too big for one person going from election to election.

It needs some long term fully funded vision as people are suffering and caught in the middle.

Other countries seem to manage it.

Exactly

It should be a healthcare professional, a consultant or someone very senior but I agree, more delegation, like a psychiatrist/psychologist for mental health, paediatrician for children’s health services etc

John Mullins is a shoe in to be next minister for health, they just need to find a safe seat to parachute him into first.

Europe's loss is Ireland's gain.
