The Munster Rugby Thread 24/25

What do you do if you are the likes of POM or Murray?

You see glaring inadequacies in how the club you play for and grew up supporting is run. You have become a well established and highly regarded player for both that club and the national side but you are still just a player so can't really implement or force any changes in how the club is being run at the top.

If they speak out publicly when they are still playing as Nelly has suggested they could or should have done then surely that completely undermines their ability to stay playing for Munster?
Unless it's a mass player movement then I can't see how individual players speaking out during their time playing does anything but shoot themselves in the foot.
Which makes one wonder if the issues are as bad as POM and CM (and now additional players such as Johne Murphy and Ian Keatley) are suggesting they are then why wasn't there in fact a mass revolt by the players?
Is such a thing only reserved for the likes of the Cork hurlers or does the fact we are dealing with a professional sport with many fellas just trying to survive in the game make such a notion too fanciful?

So assuming they kept their mouths shut while playing for self preservation (which is fair enough imo) what do you do now you are retired? Do you continue to say nothing despite the fact that many of the guys you played with also harbour a similar feeling of inadequacy with the functioning of the club?
By saying nothing are you not doing a greater disservice to the club?
Is speaking out not of a greater benefit even if you are going to be labeled as a bitter ex player?

Would either of these guys have said anything if they didn't have a book to try and sell?

The bottom line is we all know that Munster is a bit of a shit show and that none of that is down to the players.
Thankfully some changes seem to be occurring to try and correct things and POM and CM speaking out does seem to have contributed somewhat to that happening.
So imo it's all fair game.

I'm still not going to buy yer shit books though lads.

Wouldn't say none of it is down to the players. The errors that frequently cost Munster at crucial periods weren't all on the coaches, but yeah, not being set up to succeed from the sounds of it.

POM really doesn't rate Rowntree from the interviews

I'm not sure how the public criticism of GR sits with me tbh. It's one thing to criticize an organisation the size of Munster who are responsible for the employment of hundreds of people and answerable to tens of thousands of supporters but another thing entirely to publicly criticize an individual so personally as POM and CM have with Rowntree.
You have to wonder what's the point like seeing as GR has moved on and I think the only obvious answer is to sell more books which I would personally take issue with.
Now having said all that I haven't heard anyone come out to defend GR in light of what the two lads have said about him and with where his coaching career has gone since he left Munster, I suspect they are mostly correct in their assessment of him but still, the motives for saying it seem distasteful to me.

He's gotten the team he joined in Japan promoted so he's clearly not done a terrible job.

POM and Murray are the best players Munster have had in recent years, so I consider their voices to carry weight..Plus there's been an awful lot of departures. Not all down to him either but it doesn't draw a picture overall of an environment people wanted to stay in
