The Munster Rugby Thread 24/25

NZ media reporting that Lomax has signed a deal to stay until 2029 at the earliest. So that looked to be only bargaining, unless he comes on sabbatical after the World Cup.

Used Munster as bait, no problem there but Flanagan took it hook, line and sinker.

a sabbatical is relatively useless too. Ulster had that with Bell and now they're back to being screwed again

I think it was more than bait - it was nearly there, but Rennie taking over the All Blacks has apparently changed things. He was being frozen out under Razor, but Rennie has him as his primary TH, which is where the better NZ deal came from.

Munster miss out on All Black star

Irish side Munster have failed to secure the services of All Blacks star Tyrel Lomax, who has signed a three-year contract extension with the Hurricanes.

"Munster Rugby are pleased to announce that Jimmy Duffy will join the province as Forwards Coach ahead of the 2026/27 season on a two-year deal.
...
After earning a promotion to the role of Assistant Coach with Connacht in 2015, his first season with the senior men’s team saw them capture the PRO12 title.

Duffy spent six years on the Connacht coaching team before opting to move on for a new challenge in 2021.

He was involved with the Tonga national team on their northern Hemisphere tour in 2021 and joined the Ireland U20s coaching team in 2022, helping the side to a Grand Slam title.

The former lock moved to Australia in 2022 and joined Super Rugby outfit Western Force as Forwards Coach.

After two successful years in Perth, he returned to Ireland and has spent the past two seasons at Ulster Rugby, playing an important role in developing the province’s forward talent."

Good someone in, but Ulster's set piece has not exactly been better than Munster's this season. 10th performing lineout (Munster 8th), 14th at scrum, Munster were 12th.

Just as well Flanagan got their bid in the examiner before that news came through. Funny that.

It reminds me of the Liverpool jokes years ago in soccer with a player being sold for £10m but Everton come in with a last minute bid of £8m
