Interesting to hear Donnacha O Callaghan have a crack off them for the perceived lack of effort from many of the players last Saturday. It wasn't all fire and brimstone from him but good none the less.

Effort isn’t going to turn a 37 year old John Ryan into a 28 year old John Ryan. Niall Scannell’s problem isn’t effort, it’s ability.

Effort won’t make players who are simply incapable of breaking the gain line turn into David Wallace.

Stupid mistakes cost us 3 of 4 tries, and they didn’t come from lack of effort, it came from us forcing play.

As an example, if you look at the race to the line for the 2nd try, Abrahams starts off level but ends up quite a good bit behind. Maybe Slade is just that fast, but Abrahams gives up with 15 metres to go. Wonder if he was carrying an injury. He was also slowly jogging to get back into the defensive line, on the blindside which was already covered, for the first try.
For the 3rd try, that was a silly mistake, but the alignment was dreadful, Munster were way too compressed, making defence far too easy, there were 3 players on the receiver (Kendellen), and Kendellen's only support was Loughman, so it's not as if that play would have gone anywhere at all had the pass not been intercepted.

Their last try was ridiculous, 6 missed tackles.

So yeah, bit of it was unlucky, but there were definite signs of not enough effort going in. Maybe there is a lack of fitness? Those mistakes happen when players are tired, your point on age is a valid one, but only limited application...

Getting up off the floor and back in line doesn't take any skill.

If someone like DOC is calling it out you know it's noticeable in their eyes.

I like Jackman but the way he goes on you'd swear he was sitting in on management meetings in Thomond Park.
