The Munster Rugby Thread 24/25

I think we are still waiting for consistency from Casey. Looks the part at times but every few games he reverts back to being headless and doing some very silly things. Just don't think he has it to be a starting international 9
I guess that's a symptom of being in a side that's under pressure the while time too. If he played in blue he'd have had a relatively easier platform to play from.

Qualifying for the next round is likely to require a bonus point win next weekend. Not ideal. Castres can still qualify so I wouldn't take it as a given they're going to send a weakened team.
they're a point behind Gloucester, so if Gloucester win, Munster will need at least a bonus point win to overtake

appreciate its always harder in a team under pressure especially for a 9 when his forwards are getting beaten up.

Still think he needs to up his game as the likes of Doak, Murphy and Devine have the potential to leapfrog him in the Irish pecking order. God help us in 2 years time when JGP retires if none of the above kick on

You'd have a fair shout for giving Doak a shot this 6 Nations as well. His goal kicking is a handy back toom

There was a time where I thought it was between him and Casey for next man up, but he went off the boil for a couple of years. I suppose the Ulster pack was struggling even more than the Munster one. Good to see him back.

Squad update:
There is good news on the injury front for Jean Kleyn (calf) and Oli Jager (head) as they are both available for selection.

Following Sunday’s clash in Toulon, Craig Casey (shoulder) and Diarmuid Barron (knee) are both being assessed with their availability to be determined later in the week.

Paddy Patterson (head) and Calvin Nash (shoulder/head) are both unavailable this weekend.

Tom Ahern missed the game with a neck injury and will be assessed as the week progresses to determine his availability.

With Casey probably out and Paddy Patterson definitely out, Jake O'Riordan might be on the bench as the only other scrumhalf left.

His only experience is 19 mins against Connacht...

3 year deal at his age is hard to turn down. Think he made a good impact at munster, big help in winning URC title, won an Ireland cap and then in my opinion got fucked around by AF .Hard to blame him opting for his country of birth after that . Best of luck to him , hoping he has great end to this season
Yeah, in fairness, 3 years at the age of 32 is gold.
Think he's also gotten a nudge out the door to make space for an NIQ recruit. Hopefully that's not Alaalatoa for next season, he's a good player but it'd be a waste to use one of those NIQ slots on a 35 year old.
Denis Leamy in the pre Castres press conference says that Craig Caseys injury is not as serious as first feared. He could play v Castres but most likely will miss 2 weeks max.
Yeah, that's what I took from the update, interesting to see availability is TBC for the weekend. If it was seriously bad, then he'd be out.
