The Munster Rugby Thread 24/25

Would hope to see Edogbo and Ahern back soon

Kilcoyne will probably be just used as impact off the bench when he gets fit

Hope to see Ruaidhain Quinn get a run of games and Gleeson too when fit

The Munster squad are preparing at the HPC ahead of Saturday’s BKT URC opener against Connacht at Thomond Park.

The game kicks off at 5.30pm with tickets available here.

There is good news for Jean Kleyn (eye) & Ethan Coughlan (leg) as they have returned to full training. Kleyn returns having missed the majority of last season while Coughlan has recovered from an injury sustained against Bath last month.

Liam Coombes and Jack Daly will look to complete the return to play protocols with a view to a full return to training this week. The duo were both removed following head injuries against Gloucester earlier this month.

Dave Kilcoyne (shoulder) is increasing his training load with a view to returning to full team training.

Diarmuid Kilgallen will undergo a period of rehabilitation with the medical department for a leg injury.

Continuing to rehab: Brian Gleeson (shoulder), Cian Hurley (knee), Tom Ahern (ankle), Rory Scannell (ankle), Paddy Patterson (knee), Edwin Edogbo (achilles), Roman Salanoa (knee).
Tom Aherne was very unlucky last season to get injured so late as he was really pushing on after a great season for Munster.

Worth comparing that team to the last match of the 2021/22 season:
Munster: Mike Haley; Andrew Conway (Healy 45′), Chris Farrell, Damian de Allende, Keith Earls; Joey Carbery, Conor Murray (Casey 38′); Josh Wycherley (Loughman 49′), Niall Scannell (Barron 62′, Scannell 74′) Stephen Archer (Ryan 49′); Jean Kleyn (Jenkins 62′), Fineen Wycherley, Peter O’Mahony (C), Alex Kendellen, Gavin Coombes (Ahern 62′) (Cloete 71′).

Replacements: Diarmuid Barron, Jeremy Loughman, John Ryan, Jason Jenkins, Thomas Ahern, Craig Casey, Ben Healy, Chris Cloete.

Only 3 out of the 9 backs that day are still with Munster.

That's a lot of backline talent lost in just over 2 years. Add in Zebo, Jenkins, Snyman and Cloete, Rowntree has had a fair rebuilding job.

Ben Healy benched for Edinburgh's opening game. The young lad that started is a bit shite but if its under SRU instruction it could be a disaster for him. Townsend doesn't seem to be a fan as the 6 Nations showed.

I see Munster are looking to sell naming rights again and nobody is up in arms over it.
Where Thomond Park ?

Ah sur something has to pay for the new T&C Centre being constructed at The Hane

Tampax should buy the naming rights as the stadium looks like a massive fanny from above
