The Munster Rugby Thread 24/25

The structure and culture trumps hours effort.

England should consistently be the strongest rugby country in the world, they have massive playing numbers, but a structure that doesn't deliver sufficient concentrated talent

The part I was referring to was the flaw in selecting kids for advancement so young.

The fact that most professional athlete's birthday skew so heavily towards their sports underage cut off date is no coincidence
Yeah, the relative age effects is difficult because it's certainly a factor in youth sport and selection for things like academys. you're right there.

But it's doesn't really propagate through to senior sport as much as people imagine. It exists but only in sofar as the bias has been built in through youth selection.

But fair enough

Well with Irish schools rugby you have people who are brought in specifically to coach. They might be classed as PE or whatever but theres people employed based on their sporting experience. Thats a fact at the main rugger schools.

The clubs at underage are largely relying on parents volunteering their time.
And In clubs the demand for weekend time for other activities is a real issue.

CBC primary scool have them playing rugby 2 or 3 times a week from what I can make out as part of PE.

My kids school they get 30 mins of Irish Dancing and 30 mins of tennis for 6 weeks. Just in terms of general population health the school system is a joke

Our school PE was actually called PT, Physical Training. If you weren't on the school gaelic football squad, then you had to study. Never did a single other sport in primary or secondary school in Macroom.

That's dedication to the cause.

Hodnett, Barron, Coombes and Nash injured last weekend.

The full squad strength didn't last long.

Handy enough team though, hopefully Wycherley and Jager can give a good showing in the scrums, they've got a few big lads behind them. Bench isn't the strongest.

It's not a must win, if they do win then they're as good as secure in Europe for next year. A loss would leave a bit of a battle.

That is borderline criminal. I wonder if the same will happen now that PE is a LC subject.

The kids who take it will do well but that'll be a tiny minority and the rest will be fuckin point seeking automatons revising their French and Chemistry instead

That was a very long time ago.
