The Munster Rugby Thread 2019/20

Heading to Cape Town tomorrow via London. I got a great deal on Business Class and that swung the decision for me. I'm booked into the same hotel as the official supporters trip and got my match ticket sorted.

I'll do Table Mountain and Robben Island beforehand then big victory celebration on Saturday Evening. Flying home on Sunday with connection to Cork at 9am Monday.

I have a good feeling about this

Lucky SOAB, enjoy and here's hoping we finally break the drought. 🤞

Safe travels, hope they do it.

For anyone who did not hear the moaning Lady boys supporters on the Joe Duffy show :

Opposition fan hatred is as vital a part of a great sporting rivalry as what happens on the pitch.

People think they want it to be all nicey nice but they don't really.
If the rivalry looses it's "bite" in the stands, it will also largely loose in on the pitch and vice versa.
I hope the majority of Leinster supporters are going to be shouting for the Stormers on Saturday.
The alternative is just boring and quiet frankly a bit nauseating.

Absolutely ridiculous assertion, don't know how he can come to that conclusion.

Anyone who has stuck with Munster over the last 12 years and is prepared to hand over serious cash to travel to SA to support them in a league final (of which they have lost the last three they have been in and are underdogs in this one as well) can be considered the complete opposite of a bandwagon supporter.

I'd give my right testicle to go but I simply can't afford it. (Plus the wife would have the left one if I took off on a rugby trip to SA and left her with the smallies for 3/4 days.)
I didn't call people going to South Africa bandwagon supporters. I agree with your point, and I bet some have had their heads turned by the discussion of ticket prices, revealing just how cheap SA can be for a holiday too.

I'm saying the bandwagon is getting going again.

There is a difference.

You suggested the bandwagon is getting going again in a direct response to the 5k Munster supporters reported to be traveling to SA so you can see how someone would make the assertion you are equating the two.

Talk of 5,000 travelling fans.

Time to get that bandwagon out of storage

Yes, I see how one would do that.

Anyway, it's nice to see the Red Army back on the road, think it was one of the big drivers of the success of the European Cup, having a Munster hoard turn up.

If there are 5k Munster fans travelling (and I'm wary of that claim...), then it really addresses one of the criticsims of the SA teams in the URC/Champions Cup, that it's terrible for fans travelling to away matches.

Let's call it as it is, there will.be band wagon supporters out on Saturday, some may travel, the rest of them will prop up the bars in the likes of Barry's.
The typical ones that only show up for HEC matches, who don't even know who or where their local team is and could not be arsed to go to Musgrave Park to watch the " mickey mouse league games ".

That is the type and there are lots of them.

WATCH: Way to turn the other cheek! Fan gets Munster tattoo next to Stormers one on his bum

Cape Town - There is an old saying in sport about “taking one for the team” and avid rugby fan Edwin Jordaan certainly put his best bum cheek forward on Thursday morning.

Desperate to attend Saturday’s sold-out United Rugby Championship (URC) final between the Stormers and Irish side Munster at the DHL Stadium, Jordaan entered a competition on local Cape Town radio station Smile FM.

There has been a clamour for tickets in the city after the final sold out within three hours last Thursday.

Smile FM breakfast show host Ryan O’Connor therefore put two tickets up for grabs for anyone willing to show their commitment to the Stormers’ cause.

Jordaan, who already had the Stormers logo inked on his right bum cheek, offered to tattoo the Munster emblem on his left bum cheek in return for the tickets.

O’Connor accepted Jordaan’s challenge and called him in-studio to perform the inscription live in front of Cape Town Mayor Geordin-Hill Lewis and URC officials.

The tickets weren't that expensive...

Great to see a bit of buzz about the match, massive for the URC as a competition

Ah yes, he's been out so long it might be difficult for him to come back as a back 3 player. That long out with that level of injury in your 30s can permanently damage speed.

Interesting. I suppose if I was in his shoes, would do the same. Rugby careers are short and his is going backwards at Munster.
Munster would need to sign another outhalf (or two...) if he does leave. Would expect Tony Butler to be in the squad if that's the case. Also, Carbery is under contract until summer next year

Anyway, was thinking about the team, would go for:
Loughman
Barron
Archer
Snyman
Kleyn
Beirne
O'Mahony
Coombes

Murray
Crowley
Daly
Fekitoa
Frisch
Nash
Haley

Casey
Healy
Earls
Kilcoyne
Scannell
Salanoa
O'Donoghue
Hodnett

That second row/back row selection is incredibly difficult, gone for bulk. Would be hard to leave Kendellan & Wycherley out.
So close, Hodnett in the backrow, Beirne in second row, Snyman on the bench, Josh Wycherley instead of Kilcoyne, h and Kendellen instead of O'Donoghue on the bench.

Surprised about JOD not being in the 23.

Strong team, close to as strong as Munster can produce at this point in time.

Two strong lineups, I hope Roos gets hammered early, he's a genuinely dirty player. This will be great! The buzz is back. Toulouse in Dublin was the last one and there was a bit of a gap before that.
