The Hurling Thread

Nothing to do with being above football. Nobody thinks that.
However we play far far more club football than a lot of football counties play hurling. How many clubs in Tyrone, Longford or monaghan field hurling teams?
.
Make up your mind, you said there was no interest but now ye play far more than other counties play hurling Look your county board stands indicted here no matter how you look at it. Continued success at the hurling 😉

How does the ruling work for Ballygunner with two senior teams?
Saw they had a panel of 37 for the final yesterday. Is the case the same as in cork that if you play for one team you can’t play for the other or was the panel combined of the two senior teams?

They had to name 20 lads that could only play for the first team and they were given flexibility with the rest . A couple of the younger lads that played for 2nd team in early rounds ended up getting time for the senior team also. 2nd team lost 4 and drew 1 but they were going to go down regardless of results and can’t play senior with 2 teams again.

Yesterday was the day to catch them. Next year they’ll have Cormac Spain and another couple of excellent young lads come through so no real reason they come back to the pack. Barron was phenomenal - shame he didn’t them over the line.

On a couple of other Waterford posts :

Dungarvan lost 5 or 6 starters vs last year, including paddy Curran so had a load of young lads playing - they should come back up again.

Molumphy making all the right noises alright, and why not have an open book approach to who’s looked at, particularly as he was out of the country for a lot of the last year… it’s creative anyway . There’s a lot of people down there however very unimpressed with the backroom team and moreso with McGrath and a couple of others who were sought by Waterford gone to Wexford . Young talent is coming but next year could be another tricky one.

Thanks very much. Was curious how they managed it. Conor Tobin another young gem who should become a regular starter fairly soon I’d imagine. Some great talent in that club that seems to be fairly well managed.
Teams seem to be getting closer to Ballygunner the whole time which can only be good for Waterford hurling. Would love to see them emerge from Munster next year as long as we make it out ourselves of course!

Big overhaul underway with the Blaas, lot of established names cut free.

Tadhg de Búrca, Patrick Curran, Peter Hogan, Ian Kenny and Austin Gleeson all gone. And unknown about Dessie Hutchinson.

I know it’s a minority view amongst non-Waterford supporters, but I was hoping there’d be a final push in Gleeson and he’d finish on a high. If not with silverware, at least with showing some of the form he’s capable of.
He’s one of the most talented hurlers I’ve seen.
Unfortunately he didn’t make the most of it. I often wondered what levels he could have reached on a better team under say a Brian Cody.

Yes, unfortunately a career ultimately of under-acheivement. Not even a Munster medal to show for it.

Big risk by molumphy wielding the axe like that. You'd think hed wait for a few month's and see the lie of the land before getting rid of lads.
