I totally get what you're saying but if kilkenny played the hurling and football championship together like most counties then the football would be just a joke. You'd have teams giving walkovers or barely making any effort at all.
When its played in spring, clubs actually put in an effort, combine the training between hurling and football , and its taken seriously enough.

Gimme a break. Kilkenny are THE biggest offenders when comes to unicode counties.Ye pay lip service to GAA,you're a hurling county, endov. Ye don't even bother putting out a football team and don't give me that guff about juniors, a travesty of a competition. Every other county puts out a team in both codes regardless of standard, ye couldn't be bothered tho so save your bullshit about your senior championship it's a fig leaf and nothing more.Even your neighbours Carlow who have a tiny county and about half your population put ye to shame when it comes to making the effort.I hope your current success in hurling continues

Yes we are a hurling county. Everyone knows that. So why would we try to put in a team in the football league proper when the interest is not there? You can't manufacture up interest.
Difference between that and the likes of leitrim and Longford hurlers fielding is that most of those teams have others to play who are of a similarly low standard.

Hugely enjoyable Waterford senior hurling final today. Plenty of mistakes in in, standard might not have been the highest but it was an absolutely epic arm wrestle. I thought FMW had it with 5 minutes to go but they just ran and tackled themselves to a standstill and had nothing left for those vital last few plays in injury time.
If your going to lose you may as well go down swinging and to be fair thats exactly what FMW did.
Jamie Barron was immense but his missed goal chance in the 2cd half was a vital chance that simply had to go in if FMW were going to win.
Ballygunner very relieved this evening id imagine but they did enough to stay in the game despite facing a physical onslaught and their class told in the very end. I thought they looked a bit of an old team at times in particularly Philip and Pauric Mahoney and yet they were still involved in some big plays. In real-time I thought Hutchinson and Kevin Mahoney were poor and yet when I checked the scorers afterwards they both got 3 points each!!!

From a Cork point of view I saw that Eoin Barry from Watergrasshill seemed to be coaching Fourmilewater, I had it confirmed afterwards that he was. I thought they looked well drilled. He coached the Hill to the All Ireland last year. In light of Dominic Foleys comments last week about James Kennedy and the Cork county board possibly not having their ear to the ground with regards young coaching talent is Barry another guy that the county board could or should be enquiring about in relation to taking over a Cork underage team??

Nothing to do with being above football. Nobody thinks that.
However we play far far more club football than a lot of football counties play hurling. How many clubs in Tyrone, Longford or monaghan field hurling teams?
