Few thoughts on Cork here as not getting involved in all the internal stuff
1:Last 3 years cork focus i believe has been fixated from a performance pov on how to beat limerick , ultimate result 3 championship exits to Clare Tipp and Galway .
2: Tactics , Cork seem to concentrate a lot of effort into own gameplan and I wonder if they actually ever role play or practice scenarios like how to play against different styles ,eg sweeper etc. This leads into questions on
3:leadership, it has to come from the line first in prep for games but in the end down to players on field to adapt change and respond to what's happening on field.
4:gameplan and how its implemented , couldn't understand reluctance of cork to shoot from distance v Galway, was this pre conceived or a failure to execute maybe in hope of seeking out goal opportunities?
5: players , you have to have players on panel of 26 *barring injury* to implement the required changes needed and it looks like this hasn't been fully thought out , ball winners like harnedy left on line (hated seeing him named against limerick as he is fantastic at winning primary ball).
6: Trust in each other , looks at times like heads go when things go awry and thats when you need lads to step up and believe in what they have been doing in training etc , unity of purpose is huge in team sports and if 1 or 2 heads drop then it can spread through team. Mention has been made of hangovers from strike era , thats mad but I know full well from limericks not too distant past that internal politics within hurling circles in the county caused havoc for years , long since sorted though and there is a good ethos and a united purpose there now.
Big bonus for cork going forward is support base , nothing like it to drive lads on to succeed, who doesent want to perform and play for their own club and ultimately county team in front of a full house.
Up to Cork to fix it from here, the ingredients are there or thereabouts I think to do a lot better .
