The Hurling Thread

It was me that referenced that stat from Twitter, I think someone here might have read it wrong.
The stat was that only 2 of their last 7 managers have won all Irelands, not that the 5 managers directly before Cody failed to win one.

Of the 5 that didn’t win, Derek Lyng is one. The 2 prior to Cody (one being Nicky Brennan, I cant remember the other name) also. Before those 2 was Ollie Walsh who won 2 All Irelands as someone else mentioned. And before Ollie Walsh there were 2 more that never won an all Ireland, one being Eddie Keher.
So in the last 40+ years there have only been 2 KK managers who have won all Irelands, Cody and Ollie Walsh.
Now stats can be misleading at times, as that sounds like a terrible return, until you consider one of those 2 successful managers has won it 11 times. So it certainly wasn’t me throwing any stones at KK, it was just a surprising one to read.
Ok. My mistake - for the stat to be right, four of the five managers before Cody must have failed to win an AI. That sounds more plausible.

Kevin Fenneally I think was manager before Cody

A sound chap. Took all the knocks on the chin with no excuses or whinging. Dowling has to be the man whcih would be huge blow to Kildare. I know Henry got 20s but will they forgive him the Galway lapse??

I don't think they will. It seemed to vex an awful lot of the KK mob when Shefflin managed a team in regular contention with KK. Doubt they'd have minded as much had he managed in Munster.

1993 was KK's last AI before 2000, so for that Twitter post to be correct there must have been five unsuccessful managers in the interim. I wouldn't know offhand if this is correct (I do recall Nicky Brennan having a short stint in charge during this period).
Nicky brennan was there in 96/97, Kevin fennelly the 98 season. Can't recall if there was anyone between ollie walsh and nicky brennan . Ollie died only a few year's after winning in 92 and 93.

If Cody still has any say I cannot imagine that he would be recommending Henry! Unless he has mellowed a deal.

Fast Eddie must surely be for the chop too? Terrible record in fairness and was pretty much a disaster when Cuala took him on here. Mind boggling use of Con as man up on square being triple marked and flaked about unprotected!

Ollie was a great character. Don't remember him playing but revered in KK. Wonderful statue of him in Thomastown. Lovely man too.

I see JP has his minions out doing his bidding again!
