The Hurling Thread

Actually, you’re right you can crib away. I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy. Different examples (individuals v corporations) exploiting the same tax systems and laws that enable the free movement of capital and labour.
I don't think it's hypocrisy, because we're talking about different taxes and different tax payers (e.g., corporations Vs individuals). There's no hypocrisy in treating different kinds of case differently.

He is not breaking any laws and is entitled to do this.
True, but I don't see why this is relevant.

Who amongst us would not seek to minimise their tax liabilities if you had the means to do so..?
I wouldn't. If I had the means to do so then I would not need to avail of those means in order to get by. And I'm not some saintly individual either.

Interesting when one points out some of the good things he has done the good old Irish begrudgery comes out.
It's also interesting they when one correctly points out that he is avoiding paying tax one is often accused of begrudgery, as opposed to, say, raising a fair criticism.
Are you not going to acknowledge any of the positive contributions he has made in Ireland?
I'm happy to. His businesses have provided employment and he has given generously to various causes, including the GAA. None of that is incompatible with criticising him as an Irish citizen who moved abroad to avoid paying tax.

🤔
Better GAA man than DJ Carey?

I think it’s a bit unfair to claim he goes around playing the hero. I don’t know the man but he seems to me to be fairly low-key and goes about his business quietly. I take your point about being a tax exile. I think it is only fair to acknowledge the lot of good things he has done, particularly in Limerick and for local businesses. His equine business creates an awful lot of high-quality employment where well-paying jobs wouldn’t be the easiest to find. The economic impact of the Ryder Cup in 2027 is estimated at €300m+. Clearly there wouldn’t be a Ryder Cup in Ireland without him.
We had one previously without him

Wouldn't have Clare above Galway / Kilkenny; their best players are getting on and should they lose to Waterford on Sunday I think they're practically gone.
True but in fairness they were all ireland champions this time last year and they have very talented players

We can revisit after Round 1 😆

We'll have to agree to differ. Imo it's all about ego for him not from the goodness of his heart as you seem to believe. If he was so low key we wouldn't know as much as we do about his various donations etc.
How much do you know about what he donates to hospitals, healthcare facilities, charities etc?
Its others who talk about that not himself. Id say i could count on one hand the number of times I've heard/seen him interviewed.
