The Hurling Thread

When I saw the teams i didn't expect a kilkenny win, but couldn't forsee that beating at all. Only for Kenny wed have struggled to get to double figures.
Galway building a nice squad . Loads of quality hurlers in Galway , be interesting seeing them develop over the next few years
It's surprising to see Kilkenny struggling for scores. TJ and Mullen would obviously add a lot if they get back.
Huw lawlor massive loss I think because it adds to the loss of a top quality wing back by having to take Carey back to 3

Lawlor is off travelling, is he?

If so, it must be an awful pressure on him to see the team struggling without him. Like, if a player is injured and the team suffers as a result he can't do anything about it, but if you have chosen to step away and you can see the impact that must be very hard.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him back for championship. But then unless you think you've a chance at winning would you give up your chance at travels. Hard to know.

Good win from linerick point of view , cork started very well and showed what they could do with good ball to forwards. Our half forwards and mid tightened up and the supply wasn't as good which helped us grow into it. Delighted to see SOB and AOC delivering good scores from play. SOB is a big man similar to B hayes and both with ball in hand can cause real damage.
From Limerick pov great to see gillane still has the drive in him , his battle with SOD was great , tell truth its hard to know sometimes who's fouling who 😉 but an in form gillane is a handful for sure. TOC had a great game for cork some sweetly struck points.
Overall cork were definitely experimenting more in personnel but as with any game you can only beat what's in front of you .
Few contentious cards , the helmet pull can't remember who and Hayes pull on another day could both have been red but prob better for game they got ycs .
Plenty work ons for limerick but I like our setup and teamwork so far this year.
When you're already metronomic there is not a huge amount to work on, or a huge amount that will be different come championship.
What we saw in second half tonight is what we will see come championship.
The main and only real challenge for Limerick is how those plus 30 yr old bodies hold up week in week out in Munster.
Hegarty looked gassed when he was coming off so it will be interesting to see how they are faring come 3rd and 4th games in Munster

Hue was no 3 last year and Tipp walked in for 4 goals.
If your defence is being walked through, you look at your 5,6 and 7 and Ritchie Reid and Deegan were a calamity in that semi final last year. Them 4 goals didn’t come from high balls in on top of Huw.

Huw Lawlor is the best full back this last 5 years in Ireland by a country mile, Kilkenny wouldn’t be even winning Leinster titles without him.
