Social media and non standard media feeds are overflowing with cork and tipp stuff between booing of freetakers, time for free to be taken , cleansing of the game re fouls /non fouls , the melee and who started it , suspension etc. Would be great if they actually reported more on the games but I guess you dont drive clicks and revenue that way.
Clare limerick waterford from munster pov are probably well out of it but that wont last long either .
Definitely. With the Media focusing on these controversial and trivial topics, it creates fodder for online trolls and keyboard warriors to have a swipe at particular teams and people.
From a Cork point of view, it is plain to be seen that people online just cannot wait to have a swipe at Cork. We seem to be the team getting the most negative attention at the moment. Limerick possibly received similar attention online 3 or 4 years ago. Although in fairness, most people online are agreeing with Ben O' Connor's comments. The genuine hurling people see exactly what he means. I even spoke to a former Limerick hurler during the week and he also agreed with his comments. The odd clown did take a swipe at him online but that was quickly shut down by people.
Then you've the likes of Dalo and Joanne who like to stir up some controversy or creating a narrative, particularly when it comes to Cork and their "hype" last year and "over-the-top stuff" already this year, but with Ben O' Connor now not afraid to call these people out and as well as other Cork people online, like that video on Twitter, Argideen Mark Foley, put together, it might slightly quieten those people when they decide to create a narrative about Cork. Dalo's article this week was way more tame on Cork, for example.
Kilkenny and Kerry have had plenty of people over the years who were well able to back their own and divert the attention to other teams or other topics of conversation.
In the grand scheme of things, all this noise, does not matter to the teams. But at the same time, it is harder now than ever for players to avoid this noise. It is easy not to bother buy the Irish Examiner on a Monday but it much more easy to be tempted to click on a comments section on your Facebook feed.
It is very interesting and I'm sure our sports psychologists address this with the players. It is also interesting if there will be any influence in Croke Park and the referees committee regarding Ben's recent comments and the fact the Ben's comments are being backed by high profile player's such a Joe Canning on Live TV.
