The Hurling Thread

Interesting lineup on Sunday game . Good to see a new but familiar face on the programme, thought pat horgan did well , great to hear his thoughts on how he sees defensive set ups etc and how hard it can be to counteract. Didn't shy away from commenting on BOC interviews either which is refreshing re his comment on "the tap on the helmet" . Seems a quiet enough fella will be interesting to see how he goes as a pundit

I dunno there comes a point when all pundits stop watching any games they're not paid to watch and start recycling the same old soundbites.

It's a hard thing but there should be consistent enough churn in these things. And there is still too much "show us your medals" journalists are often the best pundits. I'd also like to see more coaches involved.

Giles was good becuae he used to try and teach us a bit about the game. That is the goal don't assume.the audience are ignorant but teach them something they may not see by themselves
Giles was phoning it in the last 7/8 years. Constantly referring back to "in my day".

Canning was good last night, spoke well and made a lot of sense I thought
Yeah he did, Hoggie is understandably a little nervous - Donal Og needs to step in there and answer the question, he is confident enough to tell them to shag off with the witch hunt

You'd only realise how big Canning is when you see him sitting near Hoggie! We all know about his hurling ability but he must have been a right handful on the pitch trying to hold him in

How much are Antrim paying Davey Fitz? Surely be to God this year is the end of him as a inter county manager.
There's a bigger point to this as well in how the GAA hold Counties to account for how they spend scarce money.
I'm sure Willie Maher will talk a good game in his role about Antrim and developing hurling there etc etc

But at a conservative estimate there's about 150k gone towards keeping Fitzgerald, his sidekick Bulfin and their backroom demands on the gravy train up and down the M7 and M1...and that's just this year!

Like last year, - on top of his payments and entourage - he had them away for a warm weather camp(and a nice golf break for him) and end up relegated from Liam McCarthy......

Those kind of resources would surely pay for 2 GDA's or similar such support for the Clubs and schools in Antrim and particularly Belfast.....

Surely the GAA and Maher's implementation committee of a new Hurling development program, will have the balls to call out this type of carry on by the Antrim Co Board

Fair play to Liam Watson for calling it as it is

2008 in thurles Canning shrugged Sully aside

Ben's points are being twisted
Are we all forgetting that he was one of the most recognised hurlers ever to not wear a helmet.
He's saying those accidental tips should not be reds never mind a yellow and sometimes not even a free and I agree there.
You go for a hook and your man goes low to one side and you tip his helmet, that play initiated the contact.

Again yes hard to tell in real time sometimes but needs to be common sense on it
